The 2024 Formula 1 season has been nothing short of dramatic, with the emergence of the "Destructors Championship" capturing fans' imaginations. But while this new metric has added an exciting narrative to the season, focusing solely on it doesn’t paint the full picture. In this article, we’ll go beyond the Destructors Championship to analyze key aspects of the 2024 season, including drivers' efficiency, teams’ profitability, and how the prize pool impacted their bottom lines.
With interactive bar charts and deep dives into metrics like Cost Per Point (CPP), you’ll discover insights that reveal a side of F1 rarely discussed. Let’s dive in!

What is the Destructors Championship?
The "F1 World Destructors Championship" tracks the chaos on the grid that has reshaped race outcomes. It’s a fan-driven metric that celebrates high-stakes drama but also highlights inefficiency, and is mainly focused on driver driven mistakes that cause damage. While it’s entertaining, it doesn’t reflect the true performance and efficiency of drivers and teams.
This brings us to the bigger questions:
How cost-effective are teams in achieving their results?
Are the prize pools sufficient to offset their operational costs?
The whole Destructors Championship tracking started by a reddit user /basspro24chevy who also gave approximate prices of the F1 car parts so we are able to easily track the damages in dollars.

Now lets dive deep into the Drivers Destructors Championship with the bar chart race that you can also play with and add or remove/add teams!
The Bar Chart Race is clear - Checo Perez is to be crowned as the F1 2024 Destructors Champion with Pierre Gasly is on the opposite end with 0 damage to the Alpine car - a dream of every F1 team and mechanic!
F1 Destructors Drivers’ Efficiency: Cost Per Point (CPP)
Now lets add the Salaries and bonuses the drivers were paid for 2024 and sum them up with the total damages they caused in the whole season. Note that we used salaries numbers we could find online so they are approximate numbers.
And at the end we divide the total cost with the number of points won per driver to get something like this:

Formula 1 is not just a sport; it’s also a high-stakes business. Calculating a driver’s Cost Per Point (CPP) offers a fascinating way to assess their value. This metric divides a driver’s salary and associated costs by the total points they’ve scored.
Here are the key takeaways:
High CPP Drivers: Typically found in underperforming cars, these drivers might have lower salaries but also fail to deliver consistent results.
Low CPP Drivers: These are the real gems, extracting maximum points for minimal cost.
Constructors Efficiency: Cost Per Point (CPP) & Profit/Loss
Now lets move on with the Constructors, bellow is the interactive bar chart race for the whole season, cumulating the damages from the drivers after every race (includes Pre-Season Testing)
The champions here obviously are Williams, all of the drivers contributed significantly to this, and especially Franco Colapinto who drove only couple of races and has also the highest CPP rate!
What we do next is summing up the total costs of the F1 teams (all drivers salaries + bonuses + damages) and divide that with the total points won - so we get cost per point (CPP) for the team.
And the last thing we do is we take the Price Pool teams were paid for finishing the 2024 season and remove the total costs from there to see which are most cost effective and least cost effective teams. See in the image below for the details
